I got surprised to see the Mojave installation is just 4 MB but I was totally excited while installing Mojave (even though the installation is manual). After installation, while running PortalConfig.exe, I encountered an error.
1. Executed PortalConfig.exe –w MicrosoftCommerceWebParts.WSP
2. Selected newly created SharePoint web application from drop down list
3. Entered StarterSite in as Commerce Server Site name in step#2 and click on next button, I got the exception stack trace as given below.
|
********** ERROR: Value does not fall within the expected range. STACK: at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPWeb.GetWebRelativeUrlFromUrl(String strUrl, Boolean includeQueryString, Boolean canonicalizeUrl) |
This bug was already logged in connect site but no resolution provided. When I approached Commerce server support team, I came to know that development team has fixed this issue and mostly it will be released in next CTP.
One thing is clear – after Mojave installation my existing commerce server application is working fine without any errors. This has proven that Mojave API is not deprecating older version commerce server 2007 API.
Stay tuned, I will be posting more of such experiences with Mojave soon.

This CTP includes the first of two key additions to Commerce Server: the new multi-channel commerce foundation. This new run-time API adds new out-of-box functionality, adds pervasive multi-channel awareness, and unifies the run-time calling model across all subsystems.

Gartner has released a report on July 18, 2008 under the title “Magic Quadrant for E-Commerce ” by analyst Gene Alvarez – delivers valuable information about the eCommerce market.
Garter states that the consumerization of online technologies is creating a demand for rich Internet experiences with user-generated content. Today’s buyers desire Web sites to speed up the process of finding a product, enable comparisons of products, provide tools to help buyers understand the product, and have community-based information to help them to make the final buying decisions — all with knowledge of “who” they’re serving across multiple points of interaction.

In next few years Microsoft is investing more on their next version of commerce server which is aligned with current e-commerce trends. Here is the commerce server road map. Microsoft has purchased site server from third party and released during early 2000. Later it came up with commerce server 2000, 2002 and commerce server 2007. So, far MS has released commerce server 2007 service packs – SP1 and SP2, which fixed majority of software bugs.
Mojave is having lot of collaboration features and it uses SharePoint to achieve this. The beauty of Mojave is that the existing site will not be disturbed if the user migrate their site to new version. I already posted Mojave features list in my blog, click below link for more details.
